lol.

thanks for the updates

Was going to say the same thing.

The precedent has now been officially established. These international banksters are above the law and apparently immune from jail time, regardless of the crimes they commit.

Drug laundering, insider trading/rate manipulation, etc.

Too big to fail, too important to be locked up. Yet the lessons from Iceland are ignored, of course.

it's just so sad. it would make me feel better if they even tried to make it appear to be fair.. but they are not.

this is blatant gangster-ism.

no doubt about it.

As i'm sure most of us are well aware, these silly fines are simply costs of doing business at this point. Clearly, as Fugazi said formerly, our laws do not apply toward certain individuals. News update in a sec...

they can kick the can down the road for a long time.. that is why i never really bought into the doomsday theories. fundamentally they are jacked.. but the entire economy is based on confidence.

(Reuters) - The Justice Department and multiple states are discussing also suing Moody's Corp (MCO.N) for defrauding investors, according to people familiar with the matter, but any such move will likely wait until a similar lawsuit against rival Standard and Poor's is tested in the courts.

I could be misinterpreting the function of treasuries, as I only have a basic understand of bonds but the volume of self-purchasing appears to me to be inflating the largest bubble in history. If it were to burst, any idea of how that would affect the markets or inflation? You're also percisely correct about the role of confidence. This is why I posted the article on the Virginia bill, if the Virginians create their own currency (I think the article said it was gold-backed) the dollars value/sentiment could be questioned nationwide.

RE: News & Current Events
believe it or not, the US bond market still has credibility.. as they have not defaulted before also large institutions need high-grade sovereign bond collateral

if this thing were to burst we would see hyperinflation.

right now we're not seeing any inflation because there is no velocity.. but it does come back in the form of exporting inflation abroad to places like China. that's why they call it a currency war.

I'm not sure about Iran's nuclear weapons capability but I wouldn't be surprised if they had nuclear power plants by now. That article is from a Jewish source so it could be sensationalized a bit.

sometimes these haaretz or these jewish news sources are less biased than the american ones.

like a few of them broke the news about Israel doing some sterilization on Ethiopian jews.

the US news is probably the most blatant in terms of lying.

Update:

1. Venezuela devalues its currency by nearly half.

Officials said the fixed exchange rate is changing from 4.30 bolivars to the dollar to 6.30 bolivars to the dollar. The announcement came after the country's Central Bank said annual inflation rose to 22.2 percent in January, up from 20.1 percent at the end of 2012.

2. Israel: No Change in Settlement Policy.

Speculation has been growing that the Obama Administration would pressure Israel to make some sort of concession to the Palestinians to restart peace talks, though the White House has made it clear that will not be the case.

3. Appeals court hears arguments in SEC's case against Citigroup.

A federal appeals court signaled that a U.S. securities regulator's proposed $285 million civil fraud settlement with Citigroup Inc might end up back in the hands of the same judge who rejected it more than a year ago. The settlement was intended to resolve U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission charges that Citigroup misled investors by selling a $1 billion collateralized debt obligation in 2007 as housing prices were falling, without revealing its bet against the underlying mortgages.

4. Japan Vows Foreign-Policy Response to Territorial Incursions.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe signaled he will implement a more robust foreign policy in the midst of disputes with Russia and China that underscore his push to boost defense spending. “When our sovereignty and national interests are threatened we must change our foreign policy to firmly express our point of view,” Abe told parliament today.

5. Watch out Overeem, UK beef products tested as horsemeat found in lasagna.

UK food safety officials have ordered the testing of all beef products following the discovery of horsemeat in beef lasagna sold by UK firm Findus, only weeks after many meat lovers were dismayed to learn horse and pig DNA had been found in burgers. Testing revealed between 60% and 100% horsemeat in samples of the Findus lasagna, food inspectors in the United Kingdom and Ireland said.

6. Brave New World, Allegations of preschool oral sex shock parents.

The claim, filed by attorney Gregory Owen on behalf of one child, alleges 4- and 5-year-olds at the First Lutheran Child Development Center in Carson, California, were performing oral sex on each other at the preschool. The suit alleges that in addition to acts performed on the 5-year-old plaintiff, other students were removing their clothing and engaging in sexual acts on the playground and during nap time.

7. Series of deadly car bombs target Iraqi Shiites

At least 31 people were killed on Friday after a wave of car bomb blasts targeting Shiite Muslims tore through two Iraqi markets, the latest attacks to highlight growing tensions between the country’s Sunni, Shiite and ethnic Kurdish factions.

8. Dad's word of warning: Adderall 'changed' my son.

Richard Fee was on a path to success and seemed to have great potential. He was intelligent and athletic, earned a full scholarship to college and had his sights on medical school. But after returning home to live with his family in Virginia after college in 2009, his parents say they learned he had become addicted to prescription medications used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, a condition his parents say he never had. Richard’s story, profiled in Sunday’s New York Times, shows a 24-year-old man who continually lied to doctors to abuse Adderall and Vyvanse, another medication used for ADHD symptoms, ultimately suffering a psychiatric breakdown that hospitalized him for a week. In November 2011, he hanged himself in a bedroom closet.
