RE: World Cup 2014 - Discussion
On the morning of Monday, the opening day of the FIFA World Cup in Brazil, the military police of São Paulo made disproportionate use of force to suppress a peaceful demonstration in the East zone of São Paulo. Several people were injured, including a journalist from CNN International news network and two other reporters covering the demonstration. There have been arrests of protesters. Tell the Governor and the Secretary of public security of São Paulo that freedom of expression and peaceful protest are human rights, including during the World Cup.

Japan better watch out for Colombia, they play like savages. Physical doesn't begin to describe their approach.

Hopefully there was a little extra 'mustard' put on the baton for the CNN 'reporter.'

Colombia's team is coming off a few major injuries. Japan's biggest test will be Ivory Coast IMO.

Japan is coming in with the strongest team they've ever had for this world cup.

Honda: Japan can reach quarter-finals

"I'm not talking idealistically, I'm being realistic," said the AC Milan player. "That's where the past 10 days of training will pay off."

Japan's best FIFA World Cup performances to date were reaching the Round of 16 as co-hosts with South Korea in 2002 and again four years ago in South Africa. But Honda, who scored twice in Japan's 4-3 win over Zambia in Florida on Friday, remained defiant.

"Do you believe in miracles or do you make them happen," said the 27-year-old. "If we only believe in miracles and that basis disappears, it will be difficult to get through our group."

Should Japan progress, a likely meeting with either Italy, England or Uruguay from Group D awaits them in the Round of 16.

Japanese fans shamed by ref's World Cup performance

TOKYO —
Japanese soccer fans hung their heads in shame Friday after referee Yuichi Nishimura’s controversial performance in the World Cup opener helped Brazil to a 3-1 win over Croatia, further clouding FIFA’s showpiece tournament.

Social media in Japan lit up after the official’s decision to give a soft penalty to Brazil which changed the balance of the closely fought match. Several posts showed mocked-up photos of Nishimura wearing a Brazil jersey.

“There’s a lot of Nishimura bashing but quite right,” tweeted @shinokc. “That was not a penalty. Feel so sorry for Croatia.”

why dont' they just use instant replay?

they won't because they won't be able to rig the games.

Korea Republic was blitzed by Ghana in the warm up match. 4-0. Korea has no hope maybe this time around.

Japan won their warm up match against Costa Rica.
