UN admits overabundance:

Quote:The world produces enough food to feed everyone. World agriculture produces 17 percent more calories per person today than it did 30 years ago, despite a 70 percent population increase. This is enough to provide everyone in the world with at least 2,720 kilocalories (kcal) per person per day according to the most recent estimate that we could find (FAO 2002, p.9). The principal problem is that many people in the world do not have sufficient land to grow, or income to purchase, enough food.

i estimate it's much much higher than 17%

they can make everyone plump and fat with all the food that is wasted.

14 tons of FOIE GRAS GIVEN AWAY. TOO MUCH PRODUCTION. TOO MUCH FOOD

Quote:Foie gras given away

French producers have given away 14 tonnes of foie gras to charity after hugely overestimating the demand for the delicacy this Christmas.

After a decade of growth, sales of foie gras stagnated last year but production levels rose, leading to a surplus, according to Les Marches, a French food trade magazine.

Producers gave 350,000 pots to 11 charities.

the argument that you need GMO outputs to raise yields or people starve is moot.

Somewhat related.

http://foreignpolicyforumonline.com/chin...n-ukraine/

"China will lease 3 million hectares (7.4 million acres) of Ukrainian farmland for the next 50 years as it strives to keep up with it’s rising food demand.

China’s official Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps has signed an agreement with Ukrainian agricultural firm KSG Agro, which would see Ukraine provide 100,000 hectares to China. That would eventually rise to 3 million hectares.

The land will be used to grow for growing crops. The produce will be sold to two Chinese state-owned grain conglomerates at preferential prices.

China’s population continues to grow each year. As of 2012, China’s population stood at 1.351 billion, compared to the U.S. which was only 313.9 million. China accounts for a fifth of the global population but only 9% of its land. Demand for food is rising as incomes rise.

Because of this ever present demining reality, China has to consistently be on the lookout for overseas agricultural partnerships to ensure the country’s food supplies.

China has made substantial agricultural investments elsewhere, notably in South America. Beidahuang acquired 234,000 hectares to grow soya bean and corn in Argentina, while Chongqing Grain paid US$375 million for soya bean plantations in Brazil and US$1.2 billion for land in Argentina to grow soya beans, corn and cotton."

RE: Massive Food Waste Worldwide. Overabundance of Grub
Large amounts of waste are what happens when giant corporation control the food supply. A little too much supply and not enough demand and tons of food go to waste. It's less hassle for them to chuck it than to distribute it to the less fortunate.

It's funny that in my 30's I'm going through a hippie phase that most people go through after high school. I'm loving the new urban gardening trend, bartering, and the revival of entrepreneurship and small business in America.

And say what you will about social media and smart phones, but that's what gives the little guy who can't afford a main stream media advertising campaign the tools to compete with the Walmarts and McDonalds of the world.
