UFC 163 payouts: Korean Zombie discloses 20/20 salary split with no PPV points against Jose Aldo in Brazil

"The Korean Zombie" says he is popular, but doesn't make a lot of money. I can think of one way to change that next month in Brazil

Ultimate Fighting Championship(UFC) featherweight Chan Sung Jung will get a title shot when he fights reigning division kingpin Jose Aldo at the upcoming UFC 163 pay-per-view (PPV) event, which takes place at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Aug. 31, 2013.

And not much else.

"The Korean Zombie" has already disclosed his UFC 163 fight purse of $20,000 to show with $20,000 to win. Obviously, the financial benefits of beating "Junior" at his own game could be enormous and Jung also has the opportunity to snag a couple of "Fight Night" bonuses.

But he still doesn't make a lot of money, according to his recent conversation with Cor MMA:

"I will be making 20,000 dollars to show, and another 20,000 dollars if I win. I do not get any PPV points. After two more fights, I will be able to negotiate my contract. Hopefully, I will be in a good position when that happens. I believe I am a very popular fighter, but I do not make a lot of money. There is definitely a problem with that. MMA was at its peak in South Korea when Hong Man Choi fought Fedor Emelianenko. Hong Man Choi was a huge star in South Korea; there isn't anyone like that anymore. TV ratings were 10 percent in those days, now they are barely 1-2 percent. South Korea needs a star like that for MMA to flourish. I am lacking in a lot of ways, but hopefully I can become a star with the way I fight."

Jung (13-3) has the opportunity to follow Chris Weidman's lead and turn the mixed martial arts (MMA) world upside down with a stunning upset win next month in Brazil, over a talent many pundits consider to be one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the sport.

Aldo is not a better striker than his UFC 163 opponent (says Jung), but is still currently a -800 favorite.

As for his earnings, "The Korean Zombie" -- who hasn't competed since tapping Dustin Poirier at UFC on FUEL TV 3 well over a year ago -- may be entitled to a backstage "thank you bonus," since he stepped in for the injured Anthony Pettis on short notice.
