One of My Biggest Gripes with 'Merica - EY 3rd World Status Talking Pointss
So we all know EY discusses, and he not alone, how America is basically 3rd world status now. I can't say I disagree. To be honest, I feel most cities have been plunging into the point of no return since the 2008 financial crisis.

One of my biggest indicators for the decline is the service sector. Let's be honest, America has become so heavily dependent on its service sector for survival. How can you have a service based economy when the service SUCKS? Most retail shops are just garbage, unfriendly, and in many city neighborhoods unsafe to enter. The employees have no desire to go above and beyond, let alone give your the bare minimum service. This is a sign of a truly ghetto mentality. Just in the past few weeks I have had workers refuse to do services because it was too close to closing time (an hour before), Fast Food restaurant that claimed the grill was broken LOL.An auto parts shop where nobody was even at the register, they were out back smoking weed. And don't even get me started with Walmart, the King of horrific shopping experiences. You can hardly blame people for only wanting to do online retail exclusively.

I have also noticed increased police presence at shopping centers and in grocery stores. In my city, police basically babysit retailers at closing time so they don't get robbed. I have witnessed recently Walmart employees helping a thief get away from the police by distracting them and shouting racism. I am also a person that tries to stay home as much as possible and live in a "safe" area. I can't even imagine how bad some places have gotten.

You cannot have a civilized society if you don't have an orderly society. 3rd world status for much of the country. Rich liberal paradises can only be shielded for so long from the realities.

Great post.
the USA got away far too long for claiming first world status due to having the largest GDP, most powerful military and some high tech gadgets

the real definition of 1st world is :

1) Basic Safety/Security
2) good public infrastructure ( well maintained roads, bridges, tolls, parks)
3) Low crime rate, low incarceration
4) Well educated populace (2+2= 4 education)
5) good safe public transit (trains, subways)
6) Good healthcare available to most of the population

the USA fails on ALL COUNTS.

So the USA cannot be 1st world, just because they have some companies that make "get your burrito faster" APPs

I wish I could say it was just the big cities. I've traveled a lot (been to about half the states) and the roads everywhere are a disgrace. You can see the economic and social decay even in mid sized cities. Small towns still have their charm though.

Edit: As far as workers go Gen Y and Gen Z have little to no work ethic. Most of the people I work with fall into those categories. They come in late, leave early, half ass their work, and then expect to get paid more.

Great post Coffee Guy (and EY and Count Iblis).

Re OP, this is one of the reasons I try to do business on a repeat basis (relationship) versus one time only (transactional).

It is not always possible, of course, but this is what I aspire to.

RE: One of My Biggest Gripes with 'Merica - EY 3rd World Status Talking Pointss
the US was already in a downhill trajectory following 9/11

in 2001 we were well into the information age.. and people were exposed to this far reaching govt conspiracy.
the 2nd hit was 2003 war on Iraq based on false claims.
both times, the US public chose evil and let the perps get away with massive crimes against humanity.

there was no excuse in the early 2000s NOT to know about this. It was all available for everyone to know.

in 2008, it really should have gone down, but they kicked the can down the road until the late teens when things really began to visibly fall apart.

now generally, USA is regarded as 3rd world.. and it will be hard to recover. the new generations are too far gone to rebuild and the entitlement and non-meritocratic culture is stronger than ever.

good point. but the continuing corporatization of all businesses will kill this dynamic.
When you don't own it you don't care about it. that is why staff at these large chains don't give a shit if people steal.

the entire country is DEMORALIZED a fuck right now.

it's very sad to see, but also it's deserved. People chose the path of least resistance and entropy did its job.

Those who know, know! Big Grin

Another shame and sign of 3rd world status is the k12 public education system. Kids are being churned out ignorant, uneducated and with PTSD in many cases. One giant waste of money, then pushed off to higher education, an almost bigger boondoggle. 3rd world status

in other countries it's cheap and shitty.
some are cheap and good
America stands alone as being EXPENSIVE and SHITTY.

health and education. all the same. Expensive and shitty.

Silicon Valley relies on a lot of H1B foreign workers from Asia and india.

This.

At least in the 40s and 50s the public school system was for learning. I graduated in 2005 with a bunch of functional illiterates.

Go through high school today when the term WHITE MALE is a PEJORATIVE? No thanks.

Its a self perpetuating cycle of degeneration. The teachers that gave a shit are weeded out and the only ones left are just there for a paycheck. They hand out participation grades for showing up.

America started going downhill once woman got the right to vote. Correlation AND causation!

'Non-meritocratic' is one way to put it.

I prefer to call it 'Communism', where party loyalty greatly exceeds in importance your ability to do the job.

I don't agree that the entire country will be run down, nor that everyone is demoralized. The leftist-run cities, yes. Completely agree.

RE: One of My Biggest Gripes with 'Merica - EY 3rd World Status Talking Pointss
the power is concentrated in the major cities. US power projection is based on these cities.

no one really cares if there is a truman show type idyllic town in the middle of nowhere.

All major US cities are 3rd world shitholes for the most part right now. It's become too apparent in 2020
