Hell not even in Pride yes you had call outs like when Mirko called out Fedor after he beat Ibrahim magomedov that definitely wasn't Pro wrestling . In today's MMA landscape especially the UFC they would be expected to do a twitter battle.

07/08 was the year of Blackberry iirc, but that started the trend of people looking at their phones 24/7. The iphone continued that trend into the 2010s.

The way the UFC was promoting that fight didn't help. The greatest trilogy of all time. Really? It's like everything that takes place in the next fight card is touted as the greatest thing ever, and whoever is the current champ is the greatest fighter ever. Low IQ marketing. Cormier was a LHW for 80% of his career and was small even at that weight class and Stipe was a fringe dude who only became relevant after most HWs washed out due to old age and mileage. Good fighter but so far from GOAT it's not even funny.
