So now point fighting has made its way to Heavyweight? What has happened to this timeline.

The way the UFC was promoting that fight didn't help. The greatest trilogy of all time. Really? It's like everything that takes place in the next fight card is touted as the greatest thing ever, and whoever is the current champ is the greatest fighter ever. Low IQ marketing. Cormier was a LHW for 80% of his career and was small even at that weight class and Stipe was a fringe dude who only became relevant after most HWs washed out due to old age and mileage. Good fighter but so far from GOAT it's not even funny.

Dana's hot take: "Miocic as HW GOAT is not even a debate"

RE: What happened?
Miocic is very unimpressive and appears somewhat low IQ. He has that energy of a dog that's panting and happy even when you're mean to him.

He doesn't keep his hands up, has almost no head movement and the rest of the package is just the standard equip. He's like the SE model of your favorite American truck, but he makes it through fights by circling and waiting for his opponent to check out mentally.

Cormier has a way more impressive skillset and accomplished way more in his career. You could tell from the walkout Cormier just didn't want to be there and was going to retire win or lose.

No doubt prime Fedor would have torched Stipe. Prime Fedor vs Prime DC is a toss-up.

Perfect comparison. His skillset is just ok and acceptable all around, but he’s not a top 10 of all time in any aspect of the game.

Dana is really the perfect CEO for the kind of demographic the UFC caters to. That he’s a life long friend of the Fertittas proves that it doesnt take a lot of brains to succeed in that industry, only ruthlessness and financial muscle.

RE: What happened?
The 'Joe Silva revelations' were really interesting too. Nothing I couldn't have guessed, you already knew matchmaking depended on if they WANTED you to look good, or not. Like the first wrestler Conor McGregor faces is Mini Chad Mendes, I mean Money Chad Mendes.

I am sure Joe told Mendes to 'stand and bang' if he wanted any sort of future in the company.

And for sure he was telling these guys Gray Maynard, Mike Pierce, to 'be more exciting' RIGHT before they walk out to fight! LOL

RE: What happened?
UFC single handedly destroyed the sport we loved and cherished.

It started with the whole Mickey's malt and choose your favorite xyience girl shit.

they cheapened the martial aspect of the sport.

UFC SUCKS

Prime Fedor was as close to invincible as anyone can ever hope to be. The term plot armor was made for the guy. He was unstoppable. He was human however, and he eventually lost like the mortal he was. That being said, I don't think we have seen a fighter that could beat a prime Fedor. He beat the best heavyweights; some who I think are better than today's best heavyweights. He beat the best at their own games; he even out kicked Cro Cop. I don't just think Fedor is the best heavyweight, I think he is the GOAT.

It’s Fedor and to be completely honest I don’t see how the conversation is even close. I don’t think you can even make any claims that the UFC hw division is better and Stipe has had harder fights. And sure he doesn’t have the fluff Fedor has on his record (Zuluzinho, Hong man Choi) but Fedors run is just fucking mythical.

At his peak he just beat everyone at their game in these fucking spectacular performances. He never got frazzled, never lost his composure, never had a bad night, won one night tournaments, won on short notice, won without all the modern trappings and structure this sport has these days. And this is something else NO ONE was doing. The other big names from Pride at the time all have losses on their record because of all of those variables.

Japan and Pride was really just fucking wild and lawless back then and he was a stabilizing force for nearly a decade. Stipe doesn’t have shit on that. He’s a good champion and a great one in a division the ufc has always had a tough time with but he’s a clear #2.

Also Fedors lackluster North American run does not diminish his greatness from his prime. Just wait untill Stipe is losing fights late in his career and we’re writing him off saying X new guy is the GOAT.

This is the real differentiatior. HW is flukey as hell. Guys get flash KO'd, or trapped in some sneaky submission when they're exhausted, get the flu and come lay an egg in a fight they should have coasted, or even just get bored of the grind and stop training.

And for 10 fucking years, it never happened to Fedor. Not once did he come in out of shape, or let the fluke overhand stop him, or get trapped in a sneaky sub, or come in with a 101 fever and shit the bed.

He showed up every fucking fight and won. After he won the belt in Pride, he fought 20 fucking more times in a span of 7 years and never lost a single fight. And he fought every HW killer that existed in that time frame and beat them all with barely a hiccup.

I can't even imagine a world where a HW fighter will ever even have an opportunity to be that active ever again. Fedor is going to exist in his own conversation for a long time.

A Middleweight who was the best the best HW. Literally the defintion of what Pound for Pound means. Not cutting weight and starving himself to be the bigger man and have reach/size on guys. Fedors skills alone and mind were enough to whoop anybodys ass and thats what the definition of the GOAT is to me.

RE: What happened?
Fedor is def. the best fighter ever. Cormier can't even compare.

Also I don't think Fedor was ever on the silly sauce.

Prime Fedor was amazing. he had speed like a MW, power like a HW.

in the Pride ring in Japan, fedor would DESTROY CORMIER or JON JONES.

RE: What happened?
No idea. I don't keep up with the sport like I used to. More into sport jiu jitsu.

My love for MMA isn't the same as it was in the vale tudo and Pride eras.

It's more about how much weight you can cut and how you can use the rules to your advantage.

The Pat Militech and Greg Jackson camps were the first to win fights by mastering the mysterious art of "ring control".

I would probably start watching regularly if the gloves were removed.

They also changed the complexion of the sport...eventually for the worse IMO.

RE: What happened?
The really bad thing is that even kickboxing is not the same. It's just not as interesting anymore. The fights don't have a good flow.

It's not bad, but when you watch the old K1 and K1 Max fights, it's so much better.

RE: What happened?
2003 K1 Max was some of the best fightsport ever.

Souwer, Masato, Buakaw, Kraus.. all characters.

now we got generic shit all around.

people are very generic now.

RE: What happened?
Let's not forget that Pride was fought in a ring.

I've always preferred watching people fight in a ring.

Was just watching some old Meca World Vale Tudo and those fights were awesome as well.

A lot more action and actual martial arts skill.

What happened?
If you can use the cage to push someone up against then you should be able to hold onto it with fingers and toes. The cage ruins the authenticity of the fights. They need to get rid of it.
But now that it's all Latinos and lesbos nobody really cares about it.

Like all sports once the lawyers and scientists get involved it's no fun anymore.
