The question is, do comments add to an article. That this specific story is about AAVs is beyond the point.

You say " the technical details of his comments really did not add anything to the story. "

That is where you are wrong. See, it is YOUR comment that does not add anything.

The commenter at least describes how quickly things can go south, and in a few words, how a swell of seawater can quickly spiral into a disaster. Something the article does not describe in the slightest.

If you want to try again, and contribute something on this topic of AAVs, and how it could be that these men died, please do so.

lol, its is very funny that you picked this topic.

i am familiar with AAVs. I was on ships the deployed AAVs

what is your experience with AAVs ?

military operations are dangerous, it is their nature.

My job was scheduling for 3rd fleet, any death would effect scheduling. i was updated daily on the entire 3rd fleet

a little bit of my background that was deleted on mma.tv

my initial college major was aerospace engineering

half way through i ran out of funding

i joined the US navy to see the world

i was a QM, navigation, i know how to use a sexton

finishing #1 in my class, i got a cush assignment for commander 3rd fleet scheduling department with top secret clearance

after the navy, they paid for my degree in computer science

So you were on the ship that deployed AAVs, and you are dissing the anecdote from a guy who was IN the AAVs. You still haven't contributed anything noteworthy on the topic, you just discussed your background, which apparently included using a sexton. Which btw there is no such thing as a sexton.

You might mean a sextant.

Again, staying on topic, the point was that quite frequently comments DO add color to a news article. This was one such case.

lol, at my drunk spelling. damn spell check did not under line sexton

i disagree that his comment adding anything.

military training is inherently dangerous.

the specifics of the danger were not important to the story of searching for the missing men

my job in scheduling included a daily brief. any death in 3rd fleet was noted. his comment about coming away alive is total BS. there were ZERO aav deaths while i was in.

which shows my view about comments. whiners, complainers, exaggerators, lies, etc..

Rule #1 when you have dug yourself a hole. Stop digging.

There were 8 Marines that died just a few days ago. I don't think you realize how callous you sound right now.

we were talking about the comment that the guy said you would be lucky to escape aav duty without injury or death.

typical of anonymous comments. total BS

You are saying "all military exercises are dangerous" and "there were never any injuries while I was involved in scheduling".

There were 8 deaths just a few days ago. The comment that says "one swell can be deadly" seems more pertinent and timely, at the moment.

how often does this happen ?

the comment implied it happens a lot.

how many times have you heard an aav story on the news in the last 40 years?

There was just one, and 8 guys died. You have yet to provide ANY insight into the matter, beyond saying it is rare.

"only two AAVs have sunk in the last 25 years"

considering only 2 sunk in 25 years, it shows this comment was total BS

"You go through 4 years on those and come away alive and in decent health, then you did very well."
