RE: Was Bruce Lee a good actor?
He's not technically good and could only play himself , but he had a magnetic presence on screen, like Arnold and JCVD. Even his interviews are interesting.

Daniel Day Lewis is an example of the opposite , an actor that is technically great but dull in every role he's in.

Great assessment CT. Terrible actor but strong stage presence.

RE: Was Bruce Lee a good actor?
like CTsar said he basically played himself in every role.

Return of the dragon he was a bit more light hearted as he played a country bumpkin.

his acting was a bit exaggerated I feel

RE: Was Bruce Lee a good actor?
^ I think every actor plays himself to a large extent. I think they pick a portion of their personality and focus on it and amplify it, while at the same time suppressing other parts of their personality.

And so (ideally) actors get chosen for their appropriateness for a role instead of (just) their technical skill. Appropriateness is crucial for things to work at their best.

That's why I don't think that the criticism that someone plays themselves has that much weight (altho it does have some)

Technical skill you can potentially learn. Magnetism you probably can't. Certainly not as easily if ever.

I think under better direction Bruce would have done better, if we take into account that the acting of the rest of the cast is not much better.... Also I think that Bruce had worked out a constant image of himself that he wanted to portray in both movies and real life and that made him seem a bit stiff and theatrical due to being too self conscious.

RE: Was Bruce Lee a good actor?
good point. I think his best performance was Enter the Dragon, as he worked with real directors.
