that said, why do they allow people to drive HIGH on WEED?

WEED slows down motor function and is PSYCHOACTIVE

why allow WEED and DRIVING?

YUP I hope they throw the book at him.
The car left rear-end, bumper, quarter panel is demolished. I hope, when I get the money, to buy a cheap replacement car, like a corolla, and drive that for awhile. I also have a 1995 Nissan pickup I'll drive local trips and for the freeway-for safety reasons-use a modern car, airbags, etc. And then I get the personal injury money I'll get a used Prius since gas is just too expensive these days. And two years from I'll be rear-ended again???!!!

RE: So a drunk driver rear-ended me on the freeway...
On the freeway luckily cars weren't going at full speed. The traffic slowed and stopped in front of me. I stopped, the drunk behind me didn't stop. The impact pushed me into next lane left of me with my car at an angle so that if The cars were still going I would been hit on the driver's side and my car has airbags (which didn't go off) and my body would be taken the brunt of the impact. I would've wound up in hospital if not killed...???!!!

They don't EY. At least not around here.

Where do they allow high driving EY? There's been a pretty big crackdown on it in Canada.

It's sound like you were pretty lucky in this scenario. It could have easily been so much worse as you say.

They will try to get you to enter arbitration if you call and deal with them, then begrudgingly give you 500 dollars more. Demand letter from a lawyer will get you 500-1000 over blue book value in this case. Every time your car gets totaled for any reason you do this to get max value. The law is that you must be made whole by the insurance company and that includes buying an identical car if you want. You are entitled to the full price to do this by law.

If you don't get a lawyer they will know you aren't serious about enforcing this law, and they will make you sign a contract for less than what the law allows. Only a lawyer can unlock the correct price.

Sounds like you've been in a rodeo or two yourself CTsar Wink

Up here we have this really corrupt provincial government car insurance monopoly that just sticks you with 59% of the fault minimum if you don't come with a lawyer. Here you lawyer up before talking to them or setting foot on their property. The government just tries to fuck everybody and uses it as a cash cow; it's banana republic stuff.

Thanks. Good advice. I need to ratchet up the negotiations. Get the lawyer involved. That should get to offer more...

Yeah get a lawyer involved. I want that extra thousand. Now it seems, since they're calling and texting everyday, that there is some mechanism to close this case soon. I mean is prolonging it a good tactic for me????!!!!

And I believe I was told, not 100% sure, that they wouldnt pay for his repairs...which sounds sensible since I'm sure all policies require you to be sober???!!! Plus court fees and penalties for the perp must be substantial...???!!!
