You just recently heard about Jordan Peterson and Russell Brand for the first time?

I don't have a huge issue with Russell Brand, he is just sort of a clown posing as an intellectual and a scholar. The type of guy that is smarter than average, but not as smart as he pretends. For me, he is just a typical actor. Changes roles every few years, but there is nothing behind it. No values, no character, no personality.

When drugs are in, he will do that. When it is out of fashion, but cool to say you have stopped doing drugs after being previously addicted to heroine, he will do that. When veganism is cool, he will go full bore with that, and become a Hare Krishna on top of it. When it gets a little old, he will say he is 'exploring Christianity'.

He is, or claims to be, a lot of things. But what he is not, is a thought leader.

I've been book-reading names Henry David Thoroeau, Tolstoy, Thich Nhat Hanh, Thomas Merton......so I may be a bit behind in discovering some of these new fellows

I'm not even familiar with the latest "Greatest" in MMA

Four weeks isn't unheard of for benzo withdrawal. i don't get why he had to go to Russia for detox, we have plenty of detox facilities here in Canada and they're use to dealing with benzodiazepine addiction. This is really weird, to the point of being kind of suspicious.

I really doubt that we'll ever see Peterson return to his place in the spotlight. I'm sure he'll make a few appearances on Podcasts and TV news shows, but the public character and persona that became his brand, is permanently damaged.

His whole 12 rules for life thing, and saying that you can't accomplish larger scale things unless you have your own room in order, will come back to bite him now.

yeah, I would not be surprised if a clever fellow like Peterson can somehow spin this to his advantage finding some way to capitalize on this opportunity

humans are not a perfectly evolved machine free of flaws and imperfections. We are also creatures of emotion and self-interest combined with the animal instinct for self-preservation.

it is why I am suspicious of these gurus which present an arrogant expression of having it all figured out because I suspect they have not transcend their own human imperfection the same as the rest of us but instead are just better at concealing their imperfection.

Gandhi did give one very wise piece of advice when he said "Be the Change you wish to see in the World". It is a more humble and reasonable ideology than judgy tough talking intellectual expression which suggests some form of superior operation.

and yes, the "Be the change...." is not an exact quote but instead a reasonable summary to express this:
