Americans, esp. big city americans VALUE fakeness above all

the faker you are, the MORE successful you seem

if you act sincere, they see it as a sign of weakness or lack of confidence

you gotta PERK YOURSELF UP BUDDY... REPEAT TO YOURSELF IN FRONT OF THE MIRROR 'I AM AN ACTIVATED AND CONFIDENT INDIVIDUAL'

That's just silly, EY. You have the strangest notions about America sometimes.

the ted talk is the EPITOME of the corporate american style that leads to success

is that not a FAKE ASS talking style, pacing around, clasping your hands, and utilizing NLP techniques to "ENTHRALL" the audience?

the epitome of YOUTUBE SUCCESS is emulating the THYROID ENHANCED OCASIO CORTEZ EYES going "HEYYY GUYS, I'MMM BAAACK WITH ANOTHER EXCITING EPISODE, BUT BEFORE THAT I WANT TO THANK XXX SPONSOR FOR MAKING THIS CHANNEL POSSIBLE"

everyone in the world knows about AMERICAN FAKENESS.. that's the first thing europeans notice when they go to the US.. why and how are americans so fake and ARTIFICIALLY CHEERFUL?

how is what I'm saying a strange notion? ask any european if they think americans are fake. they will all say YES

I agree with you about the Youtube stuff. I have yet to see a Youtuber address their supporters/viewers with anything other than; ""HEYYY GUYS".

EY is 100% correct about this.

A couple weeks ago I had a thought; basically any information presented in this style is considered legitimate by the culture. I've seen Scientists do TEDX to present their musings that are no better researched or organized than a forum post. -- The content doesn't matter, under different circumstances it would be regarded as crackpot or conspiratorial, but in this setting it's "innovative" and "fun".

That brought me to a deeper realization about political power: what is considered legitimate science / history / religion all comes down to whether or not it challenges the established order of the day. In modern American culture, the TED talks style is a way to signal that your alternative ideas are non-threatening to the political and academic order of the day, instead they can just be viewed as hip play-things of the cultural elite and trendies.

RE: They tracked down Elizabeth Holmes in SF haha. She's enjoying LIFE!
For all of us, it's clear-as-day that Modern Skeptics are nothing but the gatekeepers of the established order. When anything comes along that may threaten established ways, institutions or authorities, the 'skeptics' rally to 'expose' or bring light to this new and threatening idea. They start from the position that the new idea must be false and work to discredit it, without giving it any real consideration. The the burden-of-proof, or standard-of-truth applied is asymmetrical; the standards that they hold the new, revolutionary or underground ideas to are never applied to the established ways.

Basically, modern skeptics do not scrutinize anything or anyone that holds institutional power. This is why you can get away with doing a feel-good talk on 'Energy Healing' at TED without being attacked, but wander away from the mainstream or academia and do real research and you're deemed a crackpot.

yep. like I said before the TED TALK is the modern homily.. and it establishes clear borders as to what "out there" ideas are acceptable to society.

they play a gatekeeper role

but more importantly.. they are brainwashing people to ACT a certain way while presenting things... the fake ass measured pauses, the walk from the left to the right of the stage.. I'm so sick of this NLP shit. it's so easy to see yet the PLEBS lap it up.

the fakeness and superficiality is just off the charts

that's why I like andrew yang.. sure I may not agree no everything he says.. but he's a real dude that speaks like a real human being

Those who know, know! Big Grin

Yep, you see it in the Tech industry too. Literally everyone is trying to emulate this style.

- Load your PowerPoint
- Open with a cheesy joke that tells something about our personal life and makes the audience feel like they now have a personal connection with you
- Present a core dilemma
- Tell a story that has an unexpected conclusion
- Walk from edge to edge of the stage making hand gestures
- Put your actual idea out there in 1 minute
- Keep the vocabulary and slides simple as if you were explaining it to a child
- Make the audience feel trendy and smart
- Skip forward to conclusion slide
- Appear smug and satisfied
- Ask if there are any questions

the nerds who could never the be jocks created a protocol on how to act alpha in a systematic repeatable manner

it's really weird

americans are too easily sold with stories.. instead of core ideas

What is the alternative to this method of speaking other than the lectern style or seated with microphone?

I think this is just the culmination of successful speakers being emulated because it's easy to listen to and gets the point across. Yes, it's mostly weirdos and gays talking about BS but the method and mannerisms aren't the problem here. It's betas trying to be alphas and that's why it looks fake. Compare it to Tony Robbins.

RE: They tracked down Elizabeth Holmes in SF haha. She's enjoying LIFE!
if that's your natural style, and for some it is.. then it works.

the problem is they have systematized this method and it comes off as phony

also speaking in this manner is quite dangerous as people are more enthralled with your confidence rather than your points

I actually think Andrew Yang has the perfect balance of being clear in a western way, while also not going overboard with NLP tactics.

Donald TRUMP is actually quite REAL and GOOD as well.. and he doesn't use this bullshit. he's just a straight talker. He's just not very well read so he comes off sounding unsophisticated. But I do like his presentation style. It's real.

most of these Ted talk corporate types are fake as hell and I see through it easily

Sam Hyde's TED Talk must certainly go down as one of the best of all-time.
