Drumpf announces return to the moon by 2024! YAY
“The United States will seek to land on the Moon’s South Pole by 2024, establish a sustainable human presence on the Moon by 2028, and chart a future path for Mars exploration.”

I think Trump is looking to expose NASA.

Land a probe on the Moon, or an astronaut?

That's one way to try to get re-elected. But considering he can't get funding for a wall, what are the chances he can get funding for a manned Moon mission?

hello trevor

it seems that every presidency since at least the BUSH 2 admin has announced a grand return to the moon with exactly ZERO RESULTS

BUSH said early on in his presidency that we'd "return" to the moon by 2017

didn't happen.

the ORION systems are not even ready and plagued with problems.

and even the ORION engineers said themselves they would need extra tech to go beyond LEO!

WOW

WOW

I've seen it explained to Flat Earthers recently, who wonder how the 'atmosphere keeps the air on Earth', instead of being sucked away like it should, in their imaginations.

So you ask them "Do you think 6 feet of lead would be enough to keep the atmosphere contained?" Usually they would agree to such a thing. Then you inform them that the 100+ miles of atmosphere we have on Earth is the EQUIVALENT of 6 feet of lead.

That is what protects us from space radiation. The equivalent of 6 feet of lead. So either those 6 ft of lead aren't that important or... We have to find a way to get 6 ft of lead into orbit, to get through and beyond the Van Allen radiation belts.

isn't the 6 ft of lead old research that was made during the von braun days?

What do you mean? You think the radiation has gotten worse?

It's a misinterpretation of a series of statements by physicist John Mauldin in his book Prospects for Interstellar Travel, published in the 1980s and quoted by Ralph Rene. Mauldin undertakes an extensive study of the physics and engineering challenges of designing and building interstellar spacecraft.

At one point Mauldin discusses a generation ship, one on which one or more generations of humans would be born, live their lives, reproduce, and die during a lengthy interstellar voyage. This ship would travel at speeds approaching 30% the speed of light.

Mauldin estimates six feet of shielding would be needed for such a ship. When he gives the figure he does not specify a shield material, but later he identifies appropriate shielding materials for general radiation protection: water, rock, and metals.

Conspiracy theorists don't generally appreciate the significant differences between Mauldin's generation mission and an Apollo mission.

RE: Drumpf announces return to the moon by 2024! YAY
the explanation makes sense

for a shorter mission I do not think you would need 6 ft of lead

but of course it may be right as well since ORION engineers say that we can't go beyond LEO with humans
