You mean Yamashita's gold?? IMHO that is a completely made up story. Japan wasn't worried about gold in the middle of WWII. Who were they gonna trade with? They were trying to marshal resources for the survival of the war effort.

If the Japanese were confiscating gold they weren't very good at it, they left behind tons of gold in the temples in Cambodia and Indonesia.

The amount is almost certainly made up. That there was quite a lot of gold, I do believe.

But already the Opium Wars and 'opening of Japan'/Meiji Restoration would have cleaned up a lot of it. Then Japan would surely have had to pay up in gold, for the loans they got, in the Russo-Japanese War (completely financed by banksters in City of London/Frankfurt).
