"Ichiro Suzuki Retires at 45

Ichiro, one of the finest ever to play the game, had been expected to officially retire after the series. He’s been semi-retired since joining the Mariners’ front office last year. But he made it official Thursday,

Ichiro’s longevity—more than a quarter century on the diamond—is likely due, at least in part, to his famously bonkers training and preparation regimen.

But Ichiro showed his age during his appearance in the Mariners-A’s series in Tokyo......."------

I kind of like it. It's one unique thing we older fellas have that the young chaps envy Tongue

the older gentleman may not have the fitness capacity of the young fellow half his age but an older gentleman that maintains a trim structure is a unique commodity which makes him stand out among the packBig Grin

such a responsible fellow presents a nice look, financial security, and wise maturity that makes him a highly coveted catch!

it breaks the rule of "all things in moderation" where the excessive exercise necessary to professional athletics is destructive to health.

I also observed this with cancer diagnosis where when diagnosed people develop the "superman complex" and tell how they are going to keep running on the hamster wheel and will in fact try to work/exercise harder to prove they are above mortality and all that is going to do is deplete an already over-taxed immune system.

The time to build the body is when healthy(in moderation of course) and then when one receives that unpleasant phone-call from the doctor it is probably better to move over into the slow lane, shift mental gears, and enjoy a slower speed of exercise and life enjoyment to support and not over-work the immune system.

Sedentary lifestyle makes you live longer...where do you get this? Athletes exercise routines are related to winning a certain event at a certain time for the sports business. Exercise should be for health not money. You will still get to your maximum genetic potential of fitness, if you go at a moderate pace, and listen to your body. You will still get there, just take longer, but you will avoid injury or overuse injuries.

I think Irchiro looks good for his age. Looks better than 90% in mid-40’s, imo.

moderate exercise is great.. and turtles even do moderately move around, albeit at a slow pace

my point is , the longest living people aren't doing hardcore training or extreme sports. they take their daily walks, eat relatively bland food, and do everything in moderation including moderation

Those who know, know! Big Grin

in the USA people say "Japanese live long lives" but in Japan they say "Okinawa people live long lives"

Okinawa people live more moderate lives like a turtle. It is Island culture. USA/Mainland Japan is Trickle Down wage slave TOPPER culture not conducive to long living

yeah mid-40s is not young and I think he looks okay for that age range and of course he would be very fit for a man of his years which will allow him to enjoy a he elder phase unless all those years of his spartan/monk living habit result in an epic eating/drinking binge to enjoy the things he could not before
