"Escalation of commitment", i.e. sunk cost fallacy.

They have attended the marches, participated in the protests, donated to the causes, so admitting they have been wrong is just too much to bear.

South Africa recently had a huge scandal revealed, that the power monopoly, Eskom, has been the 'victim' of embezzlement and kickback schemes (i.e. cost over runs because contractors promised to pay some of the funds to the politicians who gave them the contract).

Well, now that it has been uncovered, they obviously want to claw back some of the corruption, and misuse of funds. So the WORKERS are going to strike, or even SABOTAGE the plants, in order to dissuade the government/oversight board from taking action/i.e. lay-offs or wage freezes or clawbacks.

That is all they know. Destroy. Burn. Riot. Threaten. Thanks ANC! Workers of the world unite!

RE: The Return of the Bicameral Mind
what if these repeating cycles of civilization rising then cataclysm last long enough for the human consciousness to get to a point and the Bicameral Mind must be reset?

isn't that the story of the Tower of Babel?

Who writes reality? Who shapes our perception? Using genre theory, the works of Lovecraft and Carl Jung all while exploring the layers of the brilliant film, In the Mouth of Madness, we'll try to find out.

Crows can pass the mirror self-recognition test but according to researchers, Kenyan children can't.

Also, apparently crows can dream and solve problems in their sleep.

animals are a lot smarter and sentient than the scientists think.

the biggest flaw of Christianity is that it put man way too far above of the animals.

Man has dominion over nature. It is what it is.

yes but it doesn't mean we should abuse that dominion.
The way of life following the industrial revolution has been catastrophic for animals.

RE: The Return of the Bicameral Mind
I am more and more convinced there are people, MANY PEOPLE who are not really conscious.

I'm not even saying this to feel superior or special.

I've just come to the realization that many people do not have the capability to see reality.

these people just want to enjoy the fleshly life. they do not have any inner dialogue, no higher aspirations or anything.

in fact it may be most people.

the world has become VERY VERY DEGRADED.

Geez, if you knew how many masks I saw yesterday. And this was a part of town where up to now you saw very few masks!

So what changed? All I can think is for these unthinking types, the only thing they see is how many other people are wearing masks. And once some sort of threshold is reached, say 40% or maybe 60%, they ALL convert to mask wearers.

It is no more than a fashion statement, and about fitting in/not getting in trouble.
