"The Red Scorpion" - The Alexey Ignashov Story
Man i loved to wacht this guy compete in the K1. He had the potential to be the best of the world wheren't it for alcohol and lousy management which got the better of him
In his prime he was famous for his speed, viscious knees, technique, accuracy and overall calmnes.. The guy was a Muay Thai beast and everyone who faced Alexey knew it going to be a tough fight and needed to be sharp. He broke the nose of Nikolas Pettas with a knee strike Alexey whas the real deal for the top K1 fighters back then. Unfortunatly things went down fast with him and he never climbed back up.. But that fight intro song he used though.. still gives me chills thinking about it "The Red Scorpion: The Alexey Ignashov Story" His entrance song.. Man what a atmosphere this track brought to the arena.. Outside - To Forgive, But Not Forget Funyy thing was i found the email adres of his coach (Igor Jushko) back then on a forum which i sent a email and who told me the name of this track. ![]() "Our society is run by insane people for insane objectives . . . by maniacs for maniacal purposes" |

"The Red Scorpion" - The Alexey Ignashov Story
I caught a rerun of Bellator kickboxing 9 recently. And to my big surprise they had The Red Scorpion on the card matched against Dževad Poturak, a 40 year old B level fighter who did good in the K1 but to the top tier fighters never was a real threat.
![]() Alexey seemed in shape and Sharp, but only did what he had to do in the ring. It was enough to take the win for him but he came on and fought rather timide. No red scorpion fight music or cape just a simpel song and fight gear. He seemed to have lost some of his demons over the years, maybe the Spartanisque approach represents a new chapter in his life I hope to see him come back at Bellator Link to video: https://www.mma-core.com/videos/Alexey_I...9/10214137 Verzonden vanaf mijn iPhone met Tapatalk "Our society is run by insane people for insane objectives . . . by maniacs for maniacal purposes" |

Ignashov was good but IIRC he had massive motivational problems.
he was really hyped up for a bit, but never quite lived up to the hype. |

^ Yup, he had good technique and excellent chin but never applied himself to the fullest. My guess is he was also probably using alcohol which is not gonna help with anything.

RE: "The Red Scorpion" - The Alexey Ignashov Story
a natural talent for sure.
a lot of the most talented fighters like Gomi, Sakurai etc. didn't train as hard as they should have sakuraba probably as well. I remember the Japanese press hyping Ignashov up like crazy back in the day. |

Yeah it seemed the combination of lousy management, alcohol and some personal problems where to strong for him to conquer. Such a shame "Our society is run by insane people for insane objectives . . . by maniacs for maniacal purposes" |

I remember the commentators of Fightsport asking themselves (a programm which broadcasted K1)in what kind of shape Ignashov would be so they knew it would be slaughter or just enough to survive and maybe a win "Our society is run by insane people for insane objectives . . . by maniacs for maniacal purposes" |
