Yeah, the Russian version was great, but I felt like I got punched in the gut by the end of it. It's just too...gray. But, hey, cool story about a planet that creates reality from memories until you lose track of just what is real and what isn't.

But also trust me on the other ones, too. You might not like them, but they are absolutely bizarre. And Hollywood hasn't really infected my choices as much as some of the movies that are out there. I don't really like all the explosions and digitized effects and montages to waste time. Just give me a good and/or unusual story and I'll shut up for a couple of hours.

Another one that I really liked is called "All the Mornings of the World? -it's a story about a master musician and his student. Most of you would probably hate it, but there's a lot of the kind of separatist attitudes depicted in this film that I believe great art comes from. And it's absolutely gorgeous looking. You could literally pause the screen at any time during the film and it would look like a painting by one of the great Dutch masters. Here is a clip...one of the best in the movie...the master is in his shed, practicing, and he is overtaken by the sorrow of the loss of his wife...His emotion is so real, it invokes her ghost to come for a visitation. he can't believe his eyes and doesn't want to break his gaze for even a second.....but when the music ends and he hangs his head in grief, she disappears...but she leaves a telltale sign for him (the broken cracker by the wine glass) to reassure him that the visitation was real and that his music (which is on the highest level) possesses the power to reach beyond this world. Enjoy...

Of course, Forbidden Planet goes without saying.....Jason and the Argonauts with all the Ray Harryhausen stuff. I dunno...I love film and I have a lot of free time on my hands lately so why the fuck not, right?

Prey is actually a good movie. The first good Predator film since the original from 1987. So 35 years wait for a decent Predator sequel. Pred looks scary again for first time since 1.
