zambidis was also quite good, but his kicks weren't that developed

another guy that was good was Yoshihiro Sato. I called him the SPIDER

i miss the days of K1 MAX, arguably the finest standup fighting event ever during its prime.

Sato was also a great fighter. Lots of heart! All those Chinese and japanese fighters have big hearts. I remember Mushashi in the HW division facing the biggest year after year and never able to be a real threat like Hoost, Le Banner, Sefo etc. Except one time he became K1 champion due to some sort of fluke. Well deserved imo, but not in the way it should

What's interesting is that he is underweight in K1 Max if we take into account weight cutting. He constantly weighted in at 152 pounds in a 154 pound division.

By contrast Andy Souwer stated he cut weight from 172. In the same interview I believe he stated that that was a bit heavier than optimal, and that 167 would be a better weight on fight night.

So Buakaw was constantly facing opponents 15 to 25 pounds heavier and making them look bad in the process.

^thais are used to fight outweighed opponents. Take a Seanchai, champion in 3 or 4 weightclasses. And not only fought Thais but also european champions.

Thais are a special breed, tough as nails, agile and know no fear. They are never complaining about weight, fighttime etc. They just go out there and start chopping

In Thailand Buakaw is a superstar, but indeed there are a lot more fighters with better stats. Altough i think the K1 Max in its glory days was one of the toughest pouls to fight in
