The old gen from the Pride/early zuffa is still at the top and only losing to other old guys that have a little less mileage in them (Stipe/DC/Yoel). MMA is safer in many respects than it was back then. Pay is better, more mainstream recognition, fighters get hollywood movie deals, etc. yet little to no new talent in all divs.

They obviously don't want to pay the money they'd need to spend to do it.

They had the best stable for a while, especially after Pride shut down, but they intentionally changed it to a a handful of draw cards and a bunch of journeymen, and now that is changing as well. There are no big stars anymore, no replacements for Rousey or McGregor, just a bunch of boring fighters.

Even though it's easy to mock Bellator for it's amusing line up of freaks and has-been champions, I think Coker understands the general viewing audience better than the UFC does now.

I guess they dont need the hardcore fan anymore and are quickly moving away from the ppv format. 10 mil casual viewers wacthing a mediocre FOX card at Cabo Cantina probably generates as much or more revenue than 1mil hardcores watching a stacked ppv card.

That's probably where it's headed.

They can just put mediocre stuff on free to air TV, and it will be shown in every Sports Bar in the country. Then they can have 50k purses for title fights again.
