RE: Champion Boxer defeats 2 x K1 Champions in K1.
Quote:Takada was put in a different style fight against boxing champion Trevor Berbick, in a reminiscence of Antonio Inoki's match with Muhammad Ali in 1976. The nature of the bout as a worked match or a shoot fight is unknown, but what transpired in the bout was again not the planned course. Early in the match, after receiving some low kicks from Takada to his left leg, Berbick immediately protested, apparently believing that kicking under the waist was illegal. Though the referee seemed to clear the situation, it happened again and Berbick protested every time Takada landed a low kick; at the end, when Takada scored a head kick, the boxer abandoned the ring and walked out of the arena.[6] According to UWFi trainer Pat McCarthy, "no rules were ever changed. [Berbick] just never wanted to listen."[6] Anyways, the win increased Takada's popularity.

Takada has some of the strongest low kicks ever.

Here's Botha vs Cyril Abidi. The enfant terrible of K1 in that time. He gave Botha a beatiful textbook highkick and k.o. when Botha leaned in to throw a heavy right on Abidi.

K1 2003 Botha vs Cyril Abidi

I like the K1 in that period, there where good style vs style clashes and it demonstrated perfectly how lethal a good boxer can be for a Muay Thai / K1 fighter. But in the end, most of the time the boxer would draw a short straw. I would love to see that time come back tough. This is also the reason i really like Raymond Daniels in Glory, he has no fear and throws lethal flying kicks. Unfortunatly for him, many (dutch) fighters are to familiar with his game and knock him out. nonetheless i would love to see more of those fights

Botha did great in that fight, right up until the KO. He is the best example of a boxer who successfully transitioned to kickboxing in his later years as an athlete. Even most of his losses were quite honorable.

I'm just trying to figure this shit out like you are.

Yeah you are right. With Botha in the ring it always could go two sides. Even the more experienced fighters didn't always make it
