he had the right style for the kickboxers, but something like this would not happen in the lower weight classes

very thick legs that could withstand full on leg shots

I didn't pay much attention to his K1 fights at the time because I thought he was just another novelty act like Bob Sapp.

I've watched a few of his matches now, and am surprised at how well he did, even though he lost most fights. His fights with Bonjansky and Abidi were really close and he went the distance in most fights.

are there other examples of boxers fighting k1 at HW. Boxers theoretically can do well if they can check or withstand leg kicks

Off-hand, I recall Shannon Briggs fighting in K-1. He KO'd Tom Erikson, a wrestler of all things.

There has been a few in MMA as well.

Ray Mercier KO'd Tim Sylvia in an MMA match.

Of course, there was the James Toney vs Randy Couture UFC debacle.

And Royce vs Art Jimmerson Wink

There has been some try in the lighter weight divisions I think. I will have to do some Googling, hahaha.

k1 Max had a ton for awhile none of them stood a chance

i think they only stand a chance in HW because the HW guys are weak with leg kicks

Briggs recently told Joe Rogan that Erikson's leg kicks were brutal and they were hurting him badly. He said that he couldn't take one more kick and was about to tell the ref that he couldn't go on, then he saw a chance to go for a KO and he did.

^^^ Takada did a series of fights with opponents from different disciplines, and this was one of them. Because it was under UWF the general consensus is that they were stiff works, although I don't know for certain. Berbick definitely looked to be out of his depth though, not sure why a former champ would agree to a work where he gets made to look useless though, I wonder how broke he was at the time?

Berbick was a broke coke addict with brain damage so the money certainly would have come in handy. UWF put on some fun matchups though of course, this being just one of many. I don't know which yakuza outfit was backing UWF but I suspect Berbick flew over there intending to beat up Takada and someone like 'Mr I' and a few of his guys showed up backstage pre fight with a big bag of cash and some 'ideas' about what might make for an interesting show.
