Hollywood Reptilian Life: Ultra Sleazy New UFC owners turn on Trump
Quote:LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Hollywood is gearing up for a concerted response to the policies of U.S. President Donald Trump, planning a pre-Oscar rally and a political action group as the show business world moves beyond angry speeches.

Talent agency WME-IMG, which represents actors, musicians, writers and sports figures, said it was forming a national political action committee (PAC).

In a memo to employees on Tuesday, WME-IMG, one of the biggest talent agencies in Hollywood, said it also planned to develop "actionable public policy solutions," connect clients with politicians from both political parties, and support donations of time and money by employees.

The memo, seen by Reuters, does not mention Trump and avoids taking a direct political stance.

But it adds "this company’s greatest asset is the diversity of our backgrounds and beliefs. Please know that we will do everything in our power to support and protect this diversity now and in the months and years ahead."

United Talent Agency (UTA) on Wednesday canceled its annual Oscars party and said it will instead hold a rally in Beverly Hills two days before the Feb. 26 Oscar ceremony to protest "anti-immigrant sentiment" in the United States.

"If our nation ceases to be the place where artists the world over can come to express themselves freely, then we cease, in my opinion, to be America," UTA chief executive Jeremy Zimmer said in a statement.

UTA said it will also donate $250,000 to the American Civil Liberties Union and the International Rescue Committee.

The twin moves follow widespread opposition by celebrities to Trump during the 2016 election campaign, and fiery speeches at recent awards shows and rallies condemning Trump's travel restrictions on seven predominantly Muslim nations.

On Monday, Cheryl Boone Isaacs, president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, said that barriers to artistic freedom have "made Academy artists activists."

Trump's attempts to temporarily ban travel have hit Hollywood hard ahead of the movie industry's most prestigious night.

Oscar-nominated Iranian director Asghar Farhadi and actress Taraneh Alidoosti have said they will boycott the Academy Awards to protest Trump's actions. Syrian civilian rescue workers featured in the Oscar-nominated documentary "The White Helmets," will be unable to attend, producers said this week.

UTA represents Farhadi. The agency said the Tehran-based director said he felt "honored and in tears" when he heard about the announcement.

Our old friend Zach Arnold with his take. Could Trumpian revenge in the form of amending and signing the Ali Act be in the offing here?

What? WME-IMG forms mega Hollywood PAC against Trump & now gives him a motive to sign Ali Act

Hollywood is melting down over President Donald J. Trump and WME-IMG, the new owners of UFC, are reportedly creating a mega Hollywood PAC to pump huge amounts of cash to go after the Trump agenda.

This is potentially a game-changing gift for the forces who are nudging Congress into amending the Ali Act to cover Mixed Martial Arts.

Ari Emanuel and Dana White triangulated the 2016 American political scene beautifully. They played both sides of the coin and ended up helping one of UFC’s biggest supporters become President. The loyalty Dana White showed to Donald Trump is something that Trump took very seriously. It gave Dana White a direct line to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. It gave Ari Emanuel,
Trump’s former TV agent, a direct path to talk to the President. If they wanted Trump to veto signing an amendment to the Ali Act, they had clout to make the request and force Congress to override a Presidential veto.

With momentum building in Congress to amend the Ali Act, I switched my position from arguing that there was no chance of the Ali Act getting amended to a position where I could see a possible path of Congress amending the Ali Act, Trump vetoing, and Congress overring the veto. The chances were still slim, but growing.

Now this logic could potentially be turned upside down with WME-IMG and Hollywood going after Trump with tens, if not hundreds of millions of dollars in the form of a Political Action Committee. WME-IMG just cracked the door open for Trump signing an amendment to the Ali Act and gave him a motive — revenge.

The move by Ari Emanuel and WME-IMG to turn on a dime against Trump suddenly reverses course from the political strategy new ownership had in cementing UFC’s political security. Forming a mega Hollywood PAC to go after Trump and work against the implementation of his agenda is going to piss him off. It has the potential of reversing all the carefully crafted work WME-IMG engaged in over the last 12 months to make Trump a top ally.

The problem for WME-IMG? Their Hollywood clients are so hot at Trump that WME-IMG is getting backed into a corner to abandon all the political work they did over the last six months in protecting UFC. If you’re in the camp working hard to amend the Ali Act to cover MMA, these new political developments could be just what the doctor ordered to bring much needed change

Why don't these people move to countries that have the immigrants they love so much? They can just go there and enjoy the culture, instead of wrecking their home.

Right now is the perfect time to form a fighter's union. Conor's taking time off to focus on family and boxing. Lesner's retired. Ronda's washed up. New owners are still getting a feel for the business and they're coming off weak cards with more weak cards lined up.

Pro-union fighters always needed stars to back them who never would because they were getting paid well. With the current state of the UFC I think B & C level fighters threatening to go on strike would be enough to make management cry uncle.

the UFC does need a union though due to the piss poor way they have been treated over the years.

either that or the UFC needs to be investigated over anti-trust issues

it's pathetic in this day and age that UFC fighters are still making something like 10K to show and 10K to win.

The UFC has literally turned into a bunch of refugees. You see more than half the fighters through a translator.

I do not care to watch Sawid Ismael fight Emanuel 'The little Chinchino' Ortez at 125 pounds. Seriously, who gives a fuck about that shit?

Oh, but we got girl fights! Lots of roughed up Brazilian lesbians!

I think eventually, maybe, MMA will survive, as long as The UFC crashes and burns.

No other entity on Earth has done more harm to the sport of full contact, no holds barred fighting than The UFC. Jesus Christ did they ever fuck things up.

Fighters used to be independent badasses and people you could look up to. Now they're all just scared little bitches that have every second of their life dictated to them by the machine, or else.

How exciting.

That might work when the participants become millionaires, but not when they're getting their brains beat in for table scraps.
