I like Edgar's chances against McGregor (Edgar @ +160)
After rewatching Mendes vs McGregor (and to a lesser degree Edgar vs Mendes), I like Edgar's chances, although not yet enough to take action on the fight.
Mendes was winning that fight convincingly until he completely gassed. In fact, Mendes literally started to gas in the first minute of the first round. At about the one minute mark, he starts breathing through his mouth and declines to capitalize on a good takedown opportunity when he catches a missed McGregor kick. Some of Mendes gassing should be attributed to Conor's striking, but most of it must be attributed to Mendes being out of shape and fighting on two weeks notice. McGregor had an 8" reach advantage against Mendes, but Mendes landed more significant strikes in that first round and was able to close the distance at will. Frankie has 2 inches more of reach than Mendes, and much better boxing technique overall, though maybe not the kind of explosive ability to close the distance with a punch that Mendes has. Apparently Edgar and Mendes are the same height, although I could swear Edgar is an inch taller. Frankie was an NCAA div 1 wrestler, but Mendes was a two time All American. Frankie is a BJJ bb while Mendes is unranked, however Mendes was able to pass McGregor's guard easily. The thing that would worry me most is Frankie's desire to stand and box (although he has the third most takedowns in UFC history) as opposed to Mendes' willingness to shoot in the McGregor fight. If the line changes more towards Edgar being an underdog, I may take $100 on him. Say if it hits +200. Anything less than that isn't worth it. Conor McGregor vs Frankie Edgar Odds
Joe Osborne | Mon. Dec 14 2015, 10:49 am http://www.oddsshark.com/ufc/ufcconor-mc...edgar-odds ![]() Two perfectly landed punches have put two featherweight fighters on a collision course for a huge fight in 2016. That of course depends on Conor McGregor’s preference on whether he wants to move up in weight and challenge for the 155 lbs title, or stick around at 145 lbs and defend his title vs Frankie Edgar. Actions speak louder than words, and as loud as McGregor can be with his words, nothing in his career was ever as loud as his performance at UFC 194 vs Jose Aldo. With almost a year`s worth of build-up and hype before the fight, all it took was 13 seconds for McGregor to land an impeccably placed left straight on the former pound-for-pound king's chin to secure the KO victory. The night before, Frankie Edgar made easy work of Chad Mendes, landing a vicious left hook, resulting in a flash knockout that ended the fight. The victory was Edgar`s fifth in a row. Wins by both fighters make them an obvious pairing for a future fight, and even with question marks regarding McGregor`s next move, online sportsbook BetOnline has released odds for the potential featherweight showdown. McGregor is listed as a -185 favorite with Edgar coming in at +160. Many believe Edgar is a bad match-up stylistically for the Irishman, but a fight vs a former champion has the potential to be a big money fight, and if we know anything about McGregor, if a fight can make lots of money, then it makes lots of sense. http://www.betonline.ag/sportsbook ![]() |

Edgar is a dangerous opponent for anyone. Standing or on the ground, he poses problems for Conor.
That said, Conor is the superior striker, and, I imagine, Edgar keeps this standing and that Conor handles his wrestling. I wouldn't bet against Edgar in this fight, though I'll be rooting for Conor. |

RE: I like Edgar's chances against McGregor (Edgar @ +160)
Conor also has 3 inches of height and 6 inches of reach on Edgar. Edgar is an in-and-out fighter, so he'll have to enter clean, do damage and exit clean in every exchange.
