A very informative listen.

Thanks for posting.

You and others on the thread made good points. The Afghanis might be antiTaliban but might also see the US as a foreign occupier nonetheless, and this could explain why they might not have been enthusiastic about turning it into a strong defensive force.

Some of the Afghani antiTaliban commanders like Northern Alliance leaders Dostum, Noor, and Massoud were distinct from the US forces, and thus could be seen by Afghanis as not necessarily foreign puppets or something. But other top leaders like the last president who fled with lots of cash could be seen as puppets or servants of a foreign occupier. I don't want to be judgmental against the latter, but rather am thinking of why they failed.

So IOW, the US was not willing or able to make them a fighting force or to do what was necessary for this, eg. Stop poppy production.

The US military was protecting the Poppy crops. They claimed that it was because it was a part of the local culture, lol.

If you listen to the video I posted above with the two US vets, the US worked with local drug lords. The biggest one was the brother of the original president they installed, Hamid Karzai.

They said the same about bacha bazi. Soldiers were told not to interfere with little boys being raped.
