.
There's no replacement for real fighting practice. Practicing MMA for real will always be better than doing katas.

Can't wait for the "Wasn't real Tai Chi" arguments.

tai chi is a good supplement to hard martial arts training as it teaches you flow and balance.

it is similar to how conor does the movement stuff which has probably improved his flow

The biggest issue with many Traditional Marital Arts is that they train against other practitioners of their same art. That's the big advantage MMA has over them. MMA defends and attacks many styles of Martial arts and also does live sparring against different styles. You just learn to attack and defend many different styles. Just the sparring alone prepares you better.

Things like shotokan karate and kung fu worked against untrained attackers but a free style wrestler is not something they are prepared for. As soon as they are off their feet their style is ineffective.

it's just weird that over thousands of years people did not really know the perfect formula for fighting until about UFC1

maybe TMA used to work better OR people didn't fight that much back in the day so it was never tested. OR it was usually a trained TMA guy vs. untrained.

well they chose to preserve the arts through performance art rather than competitive sport. So they got really good at "performing" the techniques, but had no idea how to use it in sparring.

I can't believe they're still doing these stupid challenges in 2017. They've been done before in the early 2000s in hk, and mid-late 2000s in China too, around the time when the Art of War promotion started. With the exact same results. It's not like the Tai Chi guy came up with anything new to combat the MMA stylist. Same old shit Rolleyes

That's also true of Boxers, BJJers, Wrestlers, Judoka, Nak Muays. It really does all come down to sparring against a resisting opponent who is trying to overpower and outwit you. For that there is no substitute.

Isn't that because people had swords and knives?

Wasn't jujutsu invented because of a weapons bans during the 15th century in Japan & Okinawa?

^ very good point. when people fought for real back then they probably didn't use their bare hands

btw this video has gone viral in China. some Chinese masters are going to step up to this guy

i wonder if this guy will fight a traditional karateka

notice the tai chi guy trying to block strikes with flowing soft deflections.. ain't gonna work buddy lol

these guys get their asses kissed so hard by their students they really start believing their own bs

a shaolin guy with rudimentary ground defense would whoop this guy imo

Has an MMA fighter ever had to deal with a Chi blast before?

I agree with you but one other facet that I was getting at is that you need to spar against multiple styles to really become well rounded. You can have the greatest stand up in the world but without ground training you are vulnerable. You can have the greatest boxing in the world but without training against leg kicks you are vulnerable. Even Bruce Lee realized that striking wasn't complete enough.

Did anyone watch the Tai Chi vs Judo video?

If it wasn't staged then I thought the Tai Chi guy showed some skills.

Chinese Tai Chi fighter vs Iranian Kickboxer.
