also are you guys allowed to go party in the city?

This was back in the 80's. Yes, Marines were allowed off base to go party in the city. Back then a place called BC Street was notorious for providing wild times. I think it's gone now. I was stationed at a base outside of Naha. I used to go into Naha and spend time drinking and meeting Japanese people. I took Japanese in college and used Naha as a place to practice. Back then Karaoke was a hot thing in Okinawa. It was fun watching the Japanese people singing even though I usually couldn't understand them.

One cool thing about Okinawan bars was that you could buy a bottle of whiskey and they would keep it under the counter for you. Any time that you came back they gave you your bottle and plenty of water.
yes that is a japanese reataurant custom. they put your name on the bottle and you can drink it next time

SAN FRANCISCO — When Trevor McFedries set out last year to raise money for Brud, his robotics and artificial intelligence start-up, he found himself in many meetings with “a ton of white guy” venture capitalists.

So Mr. McFedries, who is black, and his co-founder, Sara DeCou, a Latino woman, added a condition for investors: The pair would accept money only from venture firms that had a woman or a person of color in a position to write them a check.

“It was counterintuitive for us to raise money from a bunch of white guys who want to extract all the value from the world,” said Mr. McFedries, who eventually collected several million dollars from firms that met the condition. “We’re interested in reshaping the way that tech looks.”

"hundreds of firms"

LMAO

In reality, the vast majority of start ups do not give a fuck about diversity, especially considering their high failure rate (can't risk an orc female fucking up your operations from day one).

Big corporations don't either. Dumb minorities are usually shafted into HR and are only there to make their numbers look good.

Pure propaganda from the NYT.

What a ridiculous f'ing claim that startups not taking Investor Money.
The big narrative from academia and most mass media is that "diversity actually improves performance".

Fuck no it doesn't. Teams actually perform best when they are homogeneous on traits like intelligence, work ethic, creativity, etc. That by nature excludes your dysfunctional minorities. Tyrone will never help create the next Oracle.

They are literally talking about diversity of skin color and nothing else. And they cannot admit that blacks are straight up stupid. There are academics in Berkeley who live a stone's throw away from a violent ghetto, witnessing or hearing about dysfunction on a daily basis, and they refuse to connect the dots.

Diversity within homogeneity? Might be helpful. It can be harmful when there's groupthink or single-minded devotion to the same failing strategy. Even then, you can achieve a lot with that, Japan wins a Nobel Prize in the sciences nearly every year (and they do it without immigrants).
Imagine how ridiculous this sounds:

"The LA Lakers would boost their performance every year if they put more Asians on their roster!"

I always bring up sports to rebuke any fool who pushes this nonsense, and 9 times out of 10 they slowly back away.
Whatever happened to "divide and conquer"?
China slaps US with up to 25% bigger import tariffs in trade war retaliation
https://www.rt.com/news/422915-china-us-...-response/
Quote: Beijing is hiking up tariffs on more than 128 US imports, including fruit and pork, as part of a tit-for-tat response to US President Donald Trump’s $60 billion package of tariffs imposed against China.

The additional fares, which range from 15 to 25 percent, are taking effect on Monday, the Chinese Finance Ministry said on their website. It added that the measure, aimed at “safeguarding China’s interests,” was in response to Washington’s package of tariffs targeting more than 100 types of Chinese goods, from clothing to electronics.

This was a good catch Rako, a lot of people missed it.

Trump threatens air strikes. Russia says it will retaliate. Trump says he never said when he would attack. A day goes by. The US bombs two long-abandoned sets of buildings. Russia doesn’t retaliate.

Do you think there was a “get me out of this” discussion between the White House and Kremlin?

If this is a charade and Russia is going along with this, then it's not good. That means the White House made a deal with Russia to put on a show, possibly to provoke a response from Iran.
