Stealth Greek Bank Run Continues: ECB Hikes Emergency Lending To EUR 65 Billion

Submitted by Tyler Durden on 02/12/2015 09:59 -0500

It would appear the un-sourced rumors of Greek banks having used up their Emergency line of credit with the ECB are true. Following a hastily put together conference calls this morning:

Up from the previous EUR59.5 Billion. It appears the stealth bank run in Greece is showing no signs of slowing.

As Reuters repiorted yesterday,

The ECB moved Greek banks onto ELA last week after it ended a waiver on the quality of the nation’s debt it acceptsas collateral amid doubts that the newly elected government will conclude its aid program.

Greek banks have almost exhausted the 59.5 billion euros granted by the ECB, Skai Television reported yesterday, without saying how it got the information.

And so today, as Bloomberg reports,

The ECB’s Governing Council held a phone conference Thursday to raise the allowance for the Greek central bank to provide Emergency Liquidity Assistance by 5 billion euros, FAZ reports, without saying where it got the information.

Russian President Vladimir Putin.(RIA Novosti / Aleksey Nikolskyi)

The latest poll has shown that 85 percent of Russian citizens trust President Vladimir Putin and 74 percent say they would vote for him if presidential elections were held next weekend.

The poll, conducted by the Public Opinion Foundation on February 7-8 and released on February 13, shows that the current 85 percent trust rating is up from 75 percent in February 2014. The share of those who said they were ready to vote for Putin was also up from 45 percent one year ago.

84 percent of those polled said they approved of Putin’s work as president and only 7 percent admitted they were discontented with it.

The general attitude toward Putin was also mostly positive – 75 percent of Russians said they sympathized with their leader. Fourteen percent said they had both positive and negative sentiments about him and 7 percent reported that their attitude to the president was purely negative.

Other politicians’ ratings remained generally unchanged. Five percent of respondents said that if presidential polls were to be held next Sunday they would vote for the head of the populist-nationalist LDPR party, Vladimir Zhirinovsky. Four percent pledged support to the head of the Russian Communist Party, Gennadiy Zyuganov and 1 percent said they would vote for billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov, the founder of the pro-business party Civil Platform.

The head of the Russian Institute of Socio-Economic and Political Research, Dmitry Badovskiy, connected the new surge in Putin’s ratings with Russia’s strong position on the Ukrainian crisis and personal diplomatic success of the president demonstrated at this week’s summit in Minsk. Another factor was people’s hope for Putin’s ability to cope with the ongoing economic crisis and return stability to the national economy.

According to the expert, the results of the research mean that in the conditions of a real presidential election, Putin would win with a result approaching 90 percent.

Putin’s approval ratings were on the rise in Russia last year and in December an overwhelming majority citizens named their president the “Man of the Year” when they chose among other serving Russian politicians.

At the same time, the poll conducted by the Levada Center in October 2014 showed that the majority of respondents did not see the president’s popularity as a potential cult of personality. Only 19 percent said they had noticed features resembling a cult, compared to 27 percent in 2013.

In early December, Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov commented on the surge in the president’s popularity in an interview with RT. Peskov said that in his opinion Putin did not need any publicity, bad or good, and the people’s love for Putin was a manifestation of their love for Russia.
Track The Massive Congestion At The Port Of Long Beach In Real Time

Things on the West Coast Ports are going from bad to worse (for those who missed it read "Catastrophic Shutdown Of America's Supply Chain" Begins: Stunning Photos Of West Coast Port Congestion), and with no resolution in sight, it is now beginning to cripple the US economy. Here is a brief summary, courtesy of the WSJ, of how the near-strike is already impacting various businesses across the US:

Why is this not a bigger story??
Is this trade agreement somehow linked with the west coast port situation?

"Obama Complains That TPP Critics Are 'Conspiracy Theorists' Who 'Lack Knowledge' About Negotiations

It's become fairly clear that the TPP agreement is in trouble these days (for a variety of reasons). And it appears that President Obama is losing his cool concerning the agreement and its critics. In a press conference with Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, President Obama lashed out at TPP critics, calling them "conspiracy theorists" whose criticism "reflects lack of knowledge of what is going on in the negotiations." Oh really? "

Canada, State Sponsor of Terrorism? Role of Canadian Embassy in Jordan in ISIS Recruitment?

There is a consistent pattern. NATO member states including Turkey, France, Britain as well as NATO partner countries (Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar) have been involved in the recruitment and training of ISIS terrorists.

Canada is no exception. The latest bombshell revelation pertains to the alleged uncover role of Canada and its intelligence services in the recruitment of ISIS mercenaries.

The Empire of Chaos

Propaganda is designed to promote paranoia by attributing barbarism to the enemy and righteousness to your cause.

The barbaric beheading videos purported by Western media to be part of “ISIS recruitment propaganda” have had quite the opposite effect.

The videos have done nothing but foment worldwide hatred for the group and a blood lust for revenge.

Public support for new US led “humanitarian” wars to stop these beheading madmen has never been greater.

Clearly, ISIS has a terrible public relations department.

[Image: anthony-freda-isis-beheading-propaganda-...uxeh1y.jpg]

Is ISIS really seeking to promote their own cause, and demonize their enemies or do they want the might of Western military pointed at them?

If so, wouldn’t they document the atrocities of their enemies, instead of their own?

Wouldn’t they compile the footage of children slaughtered by western forces and drone attacks all over the region?

A highlight real of recent torture, mass slaughter and chaos caused by US intervention in the region could easily be produced.

“The Greatest Hits of US Imperialism, 2001-2015″ could go viral and maybe even get more hits on YouTube than Gangnam Style.

A video like that might actually help shift the public’s desire for war and retribution towards a yearning for peace and reconciliation.

If only ISIS had a better marketing strategy, I’m sure mainstream media would promote such a campaign with the same enthusiasm they showcase their popular beheading series.

But, then again, no rational power would use it’s media to promote it’s enemy’s propaganda.

That would be insane, wouldn’t it?

An Indiana lawmaker drew gasps during a debate on the state’s religious freedom bill when she accused a colleague’s 18-month old son of being racist.

Democratic Rep. Vanessa Summers made the comment during a debate on the Religious Freedom Restoration Act in the House, referencing Republican Rep. Jud McMillin’s child.

“I told Jud McMillin I love his son, but he’s scare of me because of my color,” Ms. Summers said to Mr. McMmillin, who is white, during last week’s debate, the Indy Star reported March 24.

Ms. Summers later defended her comment, recalling the meeting with Mr. McMillin’s son earlier in the session.

“He looked at me like I was a monster and turned around and cried,” Ms. Summer said, the newspaper reported. “And I told him you need to introduce your child to some people that are dark-skinned so he will not be scared.”

Mr. McMillin said Ms. Summers‘ comment was “unfortunate.”

“It’s just incredibly unfortunate. You’d like to think that we would have professional discussion on the House floor and certainly be able to avoid having 18-month-olds in the discussion,” he said, Indy Star reported.

“I can tell you that if he reacted the same way he reacts with anybody brand new, he buries his head in his dad’s shoulder,” Mr. McMillin said. “Whoever it is, it’s what he does. He’s an 18-month-old kid; he’s in a new environment up here in a place like the Statehouse but doesn’t know anybody. I honestly don’t remember anything out of the ordinary.”

Ms. Summers later apologized for the comment but blasted critics on her Facebook page for their continued backlash.

“To all of you on my page going off. I did apologize but the news doesn’t report that. I apologized to Jud McMillian and the other members of the House. I done with it. You need to see me I’ll be at the State House on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Come see me I’m not scared of any of you,” Ms. Summers wrote.

This is not the first incident where Ms. Summers has jumped to bash conservatives over racism.

A man was tasered by police at Toronto Pearson International Airport on Thursday.

Peel police constable George Tudos says a man tried to board an airplane by breaching security. He was tasered by police during a dramatic arrest that was caught on cellphone video by a bystander.

Constable Tudos says he had a black briefcase which he refused to put down when asked repeatedly by police. They have not said what was inside it.

The male didn't sustain any injuries and so far, no charges have been laid. He was taken into police custody.
Boss in text: You’re fired because you refused sex

He’s not only an incredible cad — he’s incredibly stupid, too.

A married Long Island limo-company manager told a female dispatcher he was firing her because she rejected his sexual advances — and even put it in writing.

The damning text — sent by former US Limousine manager Raymond Townsend to pretty underling Geralyn Ganci — ended up costing him and his employer more than $700,000 in legal damages and fees, court papers show.

Ganci, 32, sued Townsend after she was fired for repeatedly refusing his barrage of sleazy requests, which eventually landed her in the hospital with extreme emotional distress, her suit said.

The sex-crazed Townsend said in one text that he “had to pull over to the side of the road and masturbate thinking about me,” Ganci said in her suit.

Ganci said she was shocked and sickened by his behavior — which occurred despite the fact that Townsend’s wife worked at the same New Hyde Park company and sat near her.

Finally, after allegedly forcing her into a restroom and putting his hand up her shirt, Townsend told the resistant Ganci she was fired in February 2009.

“The plaintiff even received another text message from Raymond Townsend which has been preserved stating that the reason plaintiff was fired was because he ‘refused to have sex with the general manager,’ ” according to the court papers.

A federal jury found Townsend and his employer liable for a whopping $550,000 in compensation and damages in 2010, federal court papers state.
Motel 6 says it has stopped handing daily guest lists to police (yeah right)

(Kevin Collier) Motel 6 has stopped handing complete guest lists over to local police in some locations, its parent company, G6 Hospitality, has told the Daily Dot.

Of course, that means that the budget motel chain, one of the largest and most iconic in the U.S., did engage in that practice.

And it did so very recently: The news broke Tuesday, when Warwick, R.I., mayor Scott Avedisian told reporters that local police had arrested four people at a single Motel 6 location thanks to that hotel’s habit of sending cops its complete guest list each day. Officers routinely scanned the lists for names that matched with outstanding warrants, according to the Providence Journal, which reported that five area Motel 6 locations participate in that program.
