there was no real operation to root out the nazis in argentina.

i remember reading about Simon Wiesenthal "the nazi hunter" go there, but never heard of anything formal.

very weird considering that the nazis were supposed to be war criminals, esp. the top ones that fled

After WWII the world was probably weary of war and were willing to ignore them. They didn't seem to cause any more problems. so since most people didn't even know they were there.

Did Wiesenthal find anything there? I would think that if he did he would have pursued it further.
there are big German communities in Argentina and Southern Brazil. Guys like Mengele were able to get fake documents and disappear within the local population until the day they died.

yes iirc he caught Eichmann in argentina. everyone knew they were over there.. but the US govt did nothing.

were deals made? also what does it say about the support for the nazis by the west?

Mossad captured Adolf Eichmann there in 1960.

This subject was not popular in 2014 when this thread was made but now the whole 'Hitler lived' idea is huge and it has spurned more than one TV series. Hunting Hitler has had multiple seasons now and is a ratings success.

i found some footage that showed the housekeeper of some hotel in argentina that remembered him

i made a thread about it
this is the one.

VERY INFORMATIVE

The germans surrendered after WW2 the Nazi's just got assimilated into the elites of the United States.

More interesting is what happened at the end of WWI to the Germans. Ceasefire on 11/11/1918, and total surrender all of sudden, 6 months later.
