Full Version: John Wayne Parr vs Anthony Mundine - Boxing

Mundine didn't start boxing until his late 20's but was a top level athlete in Rugby and his father was a former world boxing champ. He showed a lot of potential in his time and was super fast and agile, but his weak chin and lack of killer instinct (like his father) stopped him from reaching the very top of his sport.

One of his rare knockout victories.

In his last fight Mundine fought Jeff Horn, they guy who won that debatable decision over Manny Pacquaio. Horn knocked him out in the opening seconds of the fight.

Mundine then retired, but now only a few months later he has challenged John Wayne Parr to a boxing match. Parr was actually the Australian MW boxing champion a few years ago, and he has aged a lot better than Mundine and has alot of recent fight experience.

This might actually be an interesting fight if Mundine doesn't go down in the first 20 seconds.

I wonder if Anthony is any relation to Lamar?

Ah, nevermind. Wrong spelling. Smile

I think so. As much as he tries to be controversial, Mundine is very Mundane.

But if he had gotten into boxing properly from a very young age, instead of becoming a rugby champion, I do think he could have been something special. In his early fights when he was already in his mid to late 20's, he showed the movement and speed of a Roy Jones, or Sugar Ray Leonard or a lightweight Ali. But he was vulnerable to a clean punch to the chin, and his skills seemed to wain as he went into his 30s.

He did win some World Title in some ABC league, but he always seemed to crumble in the big fights that really mattered.

Still, in pure boxing, he should be able to dominate JWP. JWP's stragetgy will probably be to keep moving forward and applying pressure, looking for the KO. And it could well be successful. Mundine will try to stick and move at age 44 and hope to win on points.

Mundine, the Rapper, he will do anything for the precious dollar.

If you watch the JWP video, he says that his victory against Mundine is virtually dependent on his victory in Rizin last week. But he lost in Rizin, so he's already had a spanner thrown in his plan to have two last dream victories before retiring.

I actually think that Parr won his fight in Rizin, but I'm not a judge.

It is said that australian Abos are more naturally athletic than west africans, shame we don't see a lot of them in professional sports. Mundine has very impressive skills for a late bloomer .

His father was also super talented, but like son he has a ton of early round KO losses.

Yes, the Abos have shown their athletic ability here in Aussie Rules Football, and they are highly skilled. They also seem to have a sixth sense between them which is not my idea, it's a common observation here. When passing the ball they seem to be in tune with one another. They are not a highly motivated race however, and most of them never take advantage of their natural abilities.

Mundine was a great Rugby player though. He was small for Rugby but his speed and agility allowed him to dominate.

I'm not sure what's happening with this fight.

Everything went quiet after Parr's loss at Rizin.
