It appears it wasn't even close. This conflicts with the reports I had read previously that made it seem like they would affirm gay marriage, and that Slovenia was the most progressive and liberal former communist nation.

Preliminary results: Slovenians reject same-sex marriage law

LJUBLJANA, Slovenia (AP) — Slovenians rejected same-sex marriage by a large margin in a referendum on Sunday, according to near-complete results, in a victory for the conservatives backed by the Catholic Church in the ex-communist EU nation.

The results released by authorities show 63.5 percent voted against a bill that defines marriage as a union of two adults, while 36.5 percent were in favor. Slovenia's left-leaning Parliament introduced marriage equality in March, but opponents pushed through a popular vote on the issue. The "Children Are At Stake" group has collected 40,000 signatures to challenge the changes before any gay couples were able to marry.

"This result presents a victory for our children," said Ales Primc, the group's leader. Ljudmila Novak, from New Slovenia, described the outcome as a "clear defeat" of the leftist government, which backed the changes.

Supporters of same-sex marriage have called for Slovenia to join Western European nations that have allowed more gay rights. Conservatives and the right-wing opposition have campaigned on traditional family values, arguing that marriage equality paves the way for gay and lesbian couples to adopt children.

Although Slovenia is considered to be among the most liberal of the ex-communist nations, gay rights remain a contentious topic in the predominantly Roman Catholic nation of 2 million. Voters in the former Yugoslav republic rejected granting more rights to gay couples in a referendum in 2012.

Violeta Tomic, a lawmaker from the United Left party which initially put forward the bill, said referendum results presented a temporary setback only. "It's not over yet. Sooner or later the law will be accepted," she said.

The Slovenia vote illustrates a cultural split within the European Union in which more established western members are rapidly granting new rights to gays, while eastern newcomers entrench conservative attitudes toward the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.

Igor Zagar, a 55-year-old professor from the capital, Ljubljana, said he voted in favor of marriage equality to "support the secular state and against the interference of the church into political issues."

Gregor Jerovsek, a 40-year-old mechanic from Ljubljana, said he believed that "the family should not be a field for experimentation." "A traditional family should remain the key value of our society," he said.
well what they do is say that most people are doing this to encourage it to go in that direction
The Slavic peoples are the last hope vs the demonic, godless & self-flagellating unfettered capitalism now possessing western-world. Putin is putting up humanity's last stance vs this evil force.
The (then Russia controlled) Communist Dictatorship saved eastern Europe from imploding like the West afterall. Stalin's persecution of Jewish subverters was what caused Lukacs to flee and found Frankfurt School in Germany. Democracy fail.
On Lenin’s initiative, a meeting was organized at the Marx-Engels Institute in Moscow. The aim of the meeting was to throw light on the meaning of Marx’s Cultural Revolution. What did “cultural revolution” entail? What was it all about?

First, among those present, was Georg Lukács, a Jewish Hungarian aristocrat and son of a banker. He had become a Communist during World War I. A good Marxist theoretician, he had developed the idea of “Revolution and Eros” — sexual instinct used as an instrument of destruction.

Then there was Willi Münzenberg, another revolutionary Jew whose proposed solution to the problems besetting society was “to organize the intellectuals and use them to make Western civilization stink. Only then, after they have corrupted all its values and made life impossible, can we impose the dictatorship of the proletariat.”

“It was”, said Ralph de Toledano (1916-2007), the conservative author and co-founder of the National Review, “a meeting more harmful to Western civilization than the Bolshevik Revolution itself.”

Lenin died in 1924, but by that time Stalin had risen to power and was beginning to look on Willi Munzenberg, George Lukács and other Jewish revolutionaries (like Trotsky) as dangerous Marxist “revisionists”, introducing concepts into Marxism that were alien to Marxism and which served only a Jewish agenda.

In June 1940, on Stalin’s orders, Münzenberg was hunted down to the south of France by a NKVD assassination squad and hanged from a tree.

In the summer of 1924, after being attacked for his writings by the Fifth Comintern Congress, Lukács moved to Germany. Here he chaired the first meeting of a group of Communist oriented sociologists. This gathering was to lead to the foundation of the Frankfurt School.
Back in the day I was all for gay marriage. Hey they're people too right?

Now we are dressing up little boys like little girls and giving them hormones so they don't go through adolescence.

The discussion in the west now is transgender washrooms in kindergartens.

Good luck Slovenia. It is the epitome of a slippery slope.

So my NOW TV cable contract just renewed and we got some new channels. One of them is E! and I was watching some of it today and I watched The Kardashians for the first time ever. First time I saw Caitlyn Jenner on anything other than the internet, LMAO... seriously, this fucking show... insert Jackie Chan meme here... WTF?
Get rid of that cable stuff man if you have a kid man. It's poison.

Have a kid though. That is awesome. You and the missus would probably make a pretty good one.

I think I'm going to see Lachyau's kid for the first time tomorrow night.

I'm amped.

Why did Deladier's government imprison Munzenberg?
It is not clear whether the gestapo or the NKVD killed Munzenberg. The gestapo had an agent who infiltrated Munzenberg's organization.

Regardless of Munzenberg's cultural views, it sounds from his bio like the main reason he broke with Stalin was over the purges. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willi_M%C3...Later_life

Soviet history from the late 1930's reads like a godfather mafia novel. It's pretty common if you read about some soviet historical figure of note from that period to find out that he died in the purges. I was just playing a tank game today and randomly found out that the designer of one of the tank models was killed in the purges. That period of Stalinism was nuts, and not in a happy prozac way.

If you take out the socialism and the idealism, you are dealing with a godfather's empire, where the godfather does whatever he wants. His prerevolutionary resume outside of being a bolshevik included being a Caucasian mafia leader.

Indeed eastern communism acted as a conservator of societal norms and even traditional family values. That is why Eastern Europe has not fallen as much as Western Europe in normality. Homosexuality was banned. The family unit was not just encouraged, it was enforced. Bachelors paid extra tax for not having kids. Women were no exception, even if they could not reproduce for medical reasons. The only way to get out of the tax was to get married and adopt a child if you could not have one. That's drakonian but it works.

In any case I think that what this vote shows is that the propaganda works. If it didn't work this wouldn't have even gotten to a referendum, and second - 30% voting in favor means that the propaganda simply has to continue. It's only a matter of time, whether it's 5, or 15 years. It targets the young through movies and music, if your favorite musicians are speaking out in favor of something, that means you should be in favor of it aswell, right.

I also think calling those countries "communist" or "socialist" is incorrect. They called themselves that cause that was the trend of the day, just like how now it's modern to be a "democracy".
Brand names do not reflect the substance and the reasons for that substance.

Gangster Stalin, gang name "Koba" after the Georgian legendary folk figure

"Stalin: Nicknames.... Khozyain ("The Boss") this was the nickname that stuck with Stalin's associates within the government and the Politburo, although he tried hard to assume the mantle of Lenin by adopting the more benign title starik ("the old man"), the affetionate, self-depreating signature used by Lenin in the years before the revolution."

Once in a regular vacation by Stalin on the lake Ritsa, his associates wanted to please the Master (Khozyain), showed him an exhibit by a folk ensemble, where the centerpiee was a main Georgian dance with Caucasian knives. But instead of thanks they got the leader's displeasure: Fer me tis is foren, I am a men of rushan kultur.
Минэ это чьюжьдо, я челаэк рускай културы.
